The group of Fathers and Mothers of Children's Schools has announced that 165 families will be left without Basque in Pamplona the next course, according to the provisional lists. Other families continue to use Spanish desperately, as they find it difficult to access a Basque place and are geographically poorly distributed. “Even so,” the group of parents affirms, the Basque people continue to demand it, even in those places where the possibilities of admission are very limited.”
In particular, in the south of Pamplona the problem is serious, “where several children’s schools can be found, none of them of the model of immersion in Basque”. In the opinion of the association, the path of the Euskaldunization of children is being "hindered", "what they want is for families to give up the demand of the Basque Country. They know that it is a period of a few years, that there are problems of conciliation, that the closeness prevails ... And they also know that they're impacting the transmission of Euskera with obstacles. The Basque language, to the extent that it is a minority language, requires presence and immersion in regulated education, even at home, and even more so in this age group, where very solid foundations are established in many forms of learning, among others, in the internalization of language”.
They therefore call on families not to retract and to seek information about the meeting they have organized. The Fathers and Mothers of Children's Schools are collecting information on the free places of the children's public centers of the municipalities bordering Pamplona, along with other options, which will be communicated in Auzotegi (Etxarri Aranatz kalea), in the district of La Txantrea, on 18 May at 18:00, confirming their assistance through the following address:
They have also denounced that the Government of Navarra offers fewer places than the City of Pamplona and does not offer linguistic immersion centres in Basque: “It is time to give up the promotion of mixed models that appears in the Programmatic Government Agreement signed by the Basque parties.”
