The trial of case 13/13 ends. The Prosecutor’s Office today announced its latest petitions: it withdrew the indictment against Julen Zelarain, whose defence recalled at the trial that Zelarain was in prison in Huelva (Spain) at the time of the trial, but has kept his petitions against the other defendants, for whom he is seeking 66 years in prison. In addition to his requests, the special accusation AVT has also been added.
In particular, he accuses Arantza Zulueta and Jon Enparantza of being "leaders" of ETA, Naia Zuriarrain and Iker Sarriegi of "integration" in the organization and of being "collaborators" of Saioa Agirre and Nerea Redondo. The defence, for its part, has called for the free absolution of all of them.
At the beginning of the trial, the defendants' lawyers reported "irregularities" in both the police investigation and the judicial process, and, among other issues, explained that some had already been tried earlier for the same crimes.
Torture and imprisonment
In the first petitions, the Office of the Prosecutor requested a total of 77 years ' imprisonment for the eight accused of these acts. At the beginning of the trial, it was agreed not to prosecute Juan Mari Jauregi for health reasons and was not convicted of rebellion. In September Jauregi died, who reported that torture and the judicial process he suffered in 2010 had a direct impact on his illness.
The case is based on ten of the arrests that occurred in 2010. In addition to Jauregi, others reported torture and imprisoned Zulueta, Sarriegi, Enparantza, Zuriarrain and Agirre. They have all been involved in both the defence of political prisoners and the defence of Basque political prisoners.
