To avoid agglomerations, Euskotren has put in place extraordinary measures in the processing of the personalized Bat card to avoid agglomerations. During the first month of the measure, the presentation of the ID or family book will be sufficient to access free transport.
As of Tuesday, children under 12 years of age will be able to travel free of charge on public transport of the territory. With this measure, the toll free already applies to the Vitoria-Gasteiz tram, the Alavabus service and the municipal transport of Haya. To benefit from the personalized Bat card, Euskotren has strengthened its issuance through a special customer service. During a one-month transition period, the ID or the family book will suffice to be able to travel free of charge.
The measure will be implemented from the first week of February this year in Bizkaia. It will be mandatory to obtain the personalized Barik card and can be processed in the offices of the Bizkaia Transport Consortium (CTB), Metro Bilbao, Euskotren, Renfe or Bilbobus, among others. To complete the procedure, it is necessary to have a tutor who must present the ID or family book of the child. In addition, the institutions have announced that in the second half of the year the gratuity will be extended to children under 13 and 14 years of age, extending the age range approved by the Basque Government.
For its part, Gipuzkoa will establish this gratuitousness at the end of January or the beginning of February. Minors must have the current young Mugi card, which will enable them to buy a free ticket free of charge and will only be able to teach the driver. The Territorial Transport Authority of Gipuzkoa (ATTG) has also approved the maintenance until 30 June of 50% discount on banknotes, as in the other territories.
The Transport Authority of the Basque Country approved on 23 December last a measure in which the gratuity for children under 12 years of age and 50% discount up to half a year will benefit 130,400 children in the CAV. According to data produced by Eustat, 130,400 children will benefit from this discount: 22,000 in Álava, 65,000 in Bizkaia and 43,300 in Gipuzkoa.
At the same time, the Bizkaia CTB Council today approved transport tariffs for 2025, which will increase by an average of 3.4% from 20 February. The most used ticket, the Creditrans, will rise by 3 cents, and the Gizatrans ticket, for people over 65 and people with disabilities, will rise by 2 cents.
