In the Colombian capital of Bogotá, in the province of Bogotá, there are incidents between protesters and police at various points. Between Wednesday and Friday, eleven people have died and another 400 have been injured. Some 60 officers have been assaulted in police units following the murder of lawyer Javier Ordóñez, two policemen who were subjected to numerous electric shocks.
According to the newspaper La Jornada, Ordóñez, like the American George Floyd, had pleaded with the police for his life before he died: "Please no more," you hear on more than one occasion in a video hung on social networks of the Internet. Ordóñez went out on Tuesday night to buy drinks with two friends, avoiding the quarantine established by COVID-19. Two motorcycle policemen appeared in the area of Engativá, west of the capital, after receiving a warning from a neighbour.
One of the unionists told Ordóñez that he would be fined and the lawyer replied that he would pay the fine. Then he started to cope with electric shocks. His friends rolled the attack. Later, Ordóñez was taken to police station and, according to a friend of his, "was torn to death." Finally, he was transferred to a clinic.

After the spread of the videos of the murder on social media, the protests began to multiply everywhere. Until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities reported that there were ten deaths in the attack. A total of 209 people were also hospitalized, of which 179 had to be transferred to a hospital in Bogotá. Protests against police violence first spread to other neighborhoods in Bogotá, and later to the cities of Medellin, Cali and Barranquilla. In Bogota mobilizations have been carried out in seven points, also in the districts of the area.
Bogota Mayor Claudia López, opposed to the national government, denounced that the police have used “excessive force” against protesters and used firearms. "What kind of training have you received to respond immoderately to a protest? ", he said in a message calling for in-depth reform of the police.
Regretting the balance of hostilities, he adds: "Not even in a direct struggle (...) in the worst times of the armed conflict in Colombia," he added. In addition, he rejected the curfew: "Do we really want another reason for the confrontation between citizens and the police? What we have to do is to ease tensions, not increase tension."

Former ultra-right president Álvaro Uribe, charged by paramilitarism, wrote the following tweet: "The curfew of the National Government, the Armed Forces on the street with their vehicles and tanks, the deportation of foreign vandals and the capture of the intellectual authors; the dead, the wounded police, the destruction of the CAIS, (police facilities), than the risks of Transmilenio and the Tram of Medellin".
President Ivan Duque has ordered an "exhaustive investigation" to "fully certify the facts", but he has considered calling the uniformed "assassin" to be an "abuse" of politics.
According to López, so far this year 137 cases have been reported in Bogota due to excessive police force. "There is a structural problem in cases of police abuse and, in addition, there is a matter of impunity," said the mayor.
