Amazon squeezes. Following the banner of support for an agreement, Monday morning the workers of the Amazon logistics centre in Trapagaran (Bizkaia) met at the workshop portal. They had called the strike and, as he announced, they had a four-hour stoppage, from 05:30 to 09:30. According to the LAB trade union, the strike has had a complete continuity with the participation of the entire workforce. A total of 109 workers are responsible for the distribution of some 300 self-employed or subcontracted workers.
Through the first strike since the opening of the warehouse in 2019, they request the negotiation of the agreement. In fact, work is under the influence of a transport agreement in Bizkaia, designed for drivers.
Another demand that has been put on the table is the strike. On the one hand, the pact will be in force until 2024 and provides for wage increases of 3.5% and 3% for the next two years. In contrast to the increase in the CPI, a demand for strike has been the increase in wages in relation to the CPI. The news reports that, at the moment, the annual gross wage of workers is EUR 19,400, with a net salary close to EUR 15,600, receiving fifteen payments of EUR 1,040.
They also call for restrictions on working hours on weekends. According to LAB, there are more and more weekends when workers have to work without incentives. In that case, the weekend is limited and those who are made are required to be rewarded.
The other requirement is the right of subrogation to distributors. According to LAB, this staff suffers from "extreme precariousness": "Being an indispensable service for the development of the activity, instability, lack of schedule, low wages and, as if that were not enough, the national messaging agreement that applies to them does not guarantee subrogation." Thus, they have also demanded that the right to subrogation be guaranteed so that, even if the subcontractor company is changed, the work on Amazon is maintained.
The workers want to start negotiations on these points. Otherwise, LAB has indicated its intention to continue the strike calls, as Onda Vasca has stated.
In this video made by LAB you can see the images of the protest.
