The Basque Government plans to hire 1,000 more teachers
- The Minister of Education, Cristina Uriarte, announced on Thursday her intention to start the 3rd and 4th classes of the ESO and the Baccalaureate on September 15.
The remaining levels will start the course as planned on 7 September. According to Uriarte, the use of the mask will be mandatory from 1 Primary. He stressed that the classes will be classroom and that they will not be continuous in Early and Primary Education.
They have also explained what to do in case of contagion. Positive children and workers will not go to school and children with symptoms at school will be rehoused in a separate room and will contact the family. The close contact areas of the student shall be tested, either in the centre or in the family, and shall be quarantined.
Three types of contagion are foreseen: "controlled" or sporadic, "complex" or occasional community transmission cases and community "uncontrolled" transmission. If more than three people are infected, they will be considered as an outbreak and, after studying the above casuistic cases, it is not ruled out that a room, a line or the same school will be closed.
Special care will also be given to hygiene and, among other things, the Department of Education will send 500,000 masks each month to schools. Before the beginning of the course, 800,000 surgical masks will be sent. A contactless digital thermometer was distributed in each centre in June and a new thermometer distribution will now take place. 5,000 liters of hydroalcoholic gel will be distributed per month.
ELA trade union: "The return protocol is nothing more than propaganda"
The ELA trade union has denounced that the protocol that the Basque Government will send to the centres "comes late and bad" and has explained that they have not shared it and agreed with the workers' representatives.
Regarding the hiring of 1,000 professors that Uriarte has said, ELA has warned: "However, a decrease in the ratio is not foreseen, it is not known in what criteria are to be fulfilled, when are to be carried out or are to be carried out: the department has already allocated and closed the number of places corresponding to each center according to the number of registrations before the summer, has had 2 months to modify it and has not done so".
