The event to be held on 25 March in Azpeitia will be a milestone in the history of the Commonwealth of Basque Municipalities (UEMA). Arrankudiaga (Bizkaia), Arruazu (Navarra), Doneztebe (Navarra) and Etxebarria (Bizkaia) will become part of UEMA. Thus, the association will reach 101 municipalities, creating a territory of 305,000 inhabitants among them.
Following the event, in the presentation on Tuesday, UEMA President Iraitz Lazkano said she had three goals. On the one hand, acknowledging and thanking the "contribution" that 101 municipalities bring from the Basque Country and the Basque Country to the people. They have therefore invited representatives of these municipalities and friends of the Basque industry.
On the other hand, they want to highlight the importance of the Basque municipalities and the respiratory areas of the Basque Country. "The experts and sociolinguists point out that half of the Basque population is produced in the Basque municipalities, so it is essential to care, protect and develop the Basque municipalities," said Lazkano.
Finally, the president of UEMA has pointed out that they have new challenges to bridge the gap between knowledge and the use of Euskera. Since its creation, the association has "changed a lot": "Nowadays, in UEMA there are breaths of Euskera, but we know that not all the municipalities that are part of the association are respiratory of Euskera. In all of them, both in the respiratory areas and in the municipalities of Euskaldunes, it will be necessary to make bold policies and strengthen the dominance of the Basque Country".
