Tecman's workers deliver 100 days of indefinite strike
- Maintenance workers at the Mendaro hospital have completed their 100th day of strike in the Basque Autonomous Community this Wednesday. Improvements in working conditions have not come and the workers have ensured that work will continue in the fight against the environment.
100 days have passed since Tecman SVA S.M. from the start of an indefinite strike by the workers of the company. Osakidetza has subcontracted the company for the maintenance of the hospital of Mendaro (Gipuzkoa). With the strike, in addition to demanding better working conditions, workers want to highlight the negative impact that the outsourcing of works to private companies has on public services.
Workers demand a wage hike based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI), as their salaries have been frozen since 2011. On the other hand, they claim that they are paid the same amount as Osakidetza’s technicians in maintenance, as they pay EUR 32 less to Tecman’s staff.
Violation of the right to strike
During these hundred days of strike, workers have repeatedly denounced that Tecman and Osakidetza have violated the right to strike. That is why a formal complaint was made last July and the trial began on 20 September in Vitoria-Gasteiz. However, they have not yet been aware of the judgment, which has been appealed by the National Court.
