Organised by the association of veterans fighting in the liberation war in Zimbabwe, farms of European origin began to be confiscated. The owners were expelled from it in what they called “rapid agrarian reform”. It should be noted that in 1999, 4,000 white families owned 75 per cent of the country ' s fertile land and 90 per cent of electricity and water supplies. They also used public infrastructure. Although expropriation began in a festive atmosphere, several white owners and local workers were shot dead.
