The poet Xabier Lizardi was born in Zarautz. Besides being a writer, he was a cultural agent and participated in the creation of the Euskaltzaleak association. He also served in politics until becoming secretary of the Gipuzkoa Buru Batzar of the PNV. Lizardi's writing stood out among the poets of the time.
