ETA's boss, Txomin Iturbe, was shot at a metralleta in Biarritz when he was driving. He was wounded in his arm and leg, but he was not killed.
It was not the only attack on him. He was an interlocutor of ETA in various attempts to negotiate with the Government of Spain, as were Peixoto and Argala, who subsequently attacked the three. He died in Algeria.
