The Battle of Teruel begins, one of the largest in the War of 36. Francoist progress forced the Republic to resort to counter-attack and dedicated its forces to the recovery of Teruel.

Although Republicans began to win positions, Franco sent reinforcements.

The Republican army eroded enormously for three months in that battle, putting the balance of war in favor of the Francoists.
