Muslim military began occupation of the Iberian peninsula

The Muslim military Tarik ibn Zijad landed at the Tarifa, beginning the occupation of the Iberian Peninsula. Meanwhile, the Visigoth king of Roderi was surrounding the city of Pamplona in his attempt to dominate the Vascones. He left Pamplona to fight south of the peninsula.

In the battle of Guadalete the men of Tarik ibn Zijad achieved victory and killed Roderiko.

The Basques signed several treaties with the newly arrived Muslims and, allied with the banuqueros of Tudela, constituted the Kingdom of Pamplona in 824.
