Among the protests, the Liverpool City Hall opened the Llyn Celyn dam in Wales. For the construction of the reservoir, the municipality of Capel Celyn, with 70 inhabitants, all Welsh speakers, sank. Also, all the infrastructure they prepared to bring the water from the reservoir from Wales to England, Liverpool was 100 km away. The project led to a strong reverse movement in Wales, and among other things, the opening ceremony did not reach three minutes after the cutting of the public address cables.
In 2005 the Liverpool City Council publicly requested formal forgiveness from the people of Wales for damages caused by the reservoir.
