The first boats of British prisoners arrived in Australia and established the first colony in Aboriginal territory. The intention of the British authorities was to build a penal colony there, where the prisoners were sent and served as free settlers. Indigenous activists view the “Australian Day” as the day of the invasion and claim that they have nothing to celebrate except resistance to European colonizers.
