George W passed the Patriot Act. Bush, US President. In so doing, the Government acquired the power to spy on the privacy of citizens. They used it to justify serious violations of human rights, such as those of Guantánamo, the torture of Abu Grahib and those of the CIA. In 2011, President Barack Obama expanded the law four more years.
