An artificial platform built in international waters was declared an independent republic on the Italian coast. It was 400 square meters, and they called it the Esperantist Republic of the Island of the Roses. It was built 500 meters outside of Italian administrative water. The creator opened a bar and drew the attention of many people, in which the Italian law had not to be respected with utopian demands made. They drew their own passports, coins and stamps and designated Esperanto as the official language. At 55 days Italy occupied him militarily and brought him down in February 1969. It was a project by engineer Giorgio Rosa.
