The Nazis executed the Dutch communist worker Marinus van der Lubbe. As an anti-Nazi action, he was accused of incriminating Reichstaga and after torturing said he did. It served the Nazis as an excuse to ban working-class organizations, so several communists were considered Nazi collaborators.

Today, many historians say the Nazis fired the building.
