Monica Lekunberri Uriona was born in Galdakao. In 1934 he promoted the creation of the first ikastola of the town and served as a professor until 1936. At the beginning of the war he fled north, but later managed to return to Galdakao. He continued to work as a professor until in the spring of 1937 the bombings on the front were hardened. Although during the Franco dictatorship he was banned from teaching, he continued to teach in Basque first at home and after receiving children at home. He died in 1987 and in 2015 the City of Galdakao named a plaza.
