Marseille workers started a general strike in the middle of World War II

The workers in Marseille started a general strike in search of better working and living conditions. The strike initiated by the personnel of the ports coincided with that of the metal, transport and public services workers and was a mass protest.

Marseille depended on the collaborationist government of Vichy and Gestapo faced the workers, arresting 15,000 people.

The next day the allies bombed Marseilles without knowing the strike.
