The fishermen of Lekeitio and Ondarroa signed an agreement to divide between them the whale caught. Tensions between fishermen from different towns were common in whaling. The union of the cofradías of two villages was intended to facilitate the capture of the whale, so yields were shared among the fishermen of both localities.
