The Cuban rebellion won the victory. Led by Fidel Castro, the revolutionaries entered Santiago de Compostela, following the flight of dictator Fulgencio Batista from the island.

The next day they left from there to the capital Havana in the Caravana de la Libertad that crossed Cuba.
