Anarchist Kaxilda Hernaez was born in Zizurkil, Gipuzkoa. He participated in the 1934 revolution and was therefore imprisoned until in 1936 he was amnestied. In the 1936 war he entered the anti-Francoist militia, fighting on numerous fronts. He also collaborated with the French Resistance against the Nazis.
