The accident occurred in a submarine in Vladivostok, Russia. K-431 had problems during filling the fuel tank of the Soviet nuclear submarine. The blanket was badly placed and a thermal explosion caused the explosion of the nuclear reactor of the submarine. Ten sailors died and 49 suffered radioactive damage. Staff involved in cleaning had to work at high levels of radiation.
