There were very hard riots between the protesters in San Sebastian and the Spanish Police. Amnesty Commissions had called for mobilisation for prisoners and refugees. The Civil Government of Gipuzkoa banned the call, but thousands of people joined it in the streets of San Sebastian. The major police operation attacked demonstrators from the outset, who erected roadblocks in the city centre, crossed the vehicles, erected stones and burned at least one bus, causing significant chaos for several hours in the city. Several wounded and detained.

San Sebastian yesterday faced harder clashes in many years (Egin, 1 July 1984).
