India proclaimed independence from Britain. Despite the peaceful battle of Gandhi and the mobilization of thousands of people, for years the Indians were the protagonists of numerous protests and violent rebellions. The ethnic divisions promoted by the English for years in the country led to instability in the newly liberated country.
