Ignatius of Loyola dies

Ignatius of Loyola dies. Born in a powerful Gipuzkoan family, this military and religious worked in the service of the Castilian crown when in 1521 the Navarros rose and tried to recover the kingdom. In the battle of Pamplona he was seriously injured on both legs – in the image. This fact was the starting point for the creation of a new religious order, which was beatified in July 1609 by Pope Paul V, when the Inquisition was increasing the “witch hunt” in the Navarre mountain. He was named Holy Master of Guipuzcoa and Vizcaya by the Catholic Church of Rome.
