Franz Kafka dies in Vienna. Born in Prague, he studied as a lawyer. His best-known novel is metamorphosis, the story of a young man who has become an insect when waking up in the morning. It is known to pose absurd situations such as this, and the Kafkian word is used in several languages to describe these situations under the influence of Kafka. He died of tuberculosis at age 40.
