It was forbidden to speak in Basque at the school of Aia and recommended the sanction of the ring. The professor who did not know Euskera gave a ring to what he spoke in Euskera – many did not know Castilian – and was responsible for passing it to the person who listened to speak in his language, if he did not want to be punished. At the end of the week, they physically penalized an annealed child. In order to pursue Basque and other languages, the Spanish and French authorities have passed hundreds of laws and regulations in the last two centuries. The punishment of the ring was one of the most used methods to punish children who spoke in Basque.
