ETA tried its first major action: it tried to get off the road a train carrying former Francoist soldiers. They went to San Sebastian to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Franco's uprising. Near the city the railroad was damaged, but sabotage did not affect and the train reached its destination. Several Spanish flags were also publicly burned in San Sebastian. Police arrested 110 people in the coming days. They were severely tortured and 31 were imprisoned. Seven of them were tried at the War Council in November of the same year, with a request for the death penalty against some. They were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
