A group of far-right gunmen murdered five labor lawyers at Atocha Street in Madrid. The lawyers were members of the Communist Party of Spain and the CCOO trade union. The Communist Party was illegal, but hundreds of thousands of people met at the funeral and strikes were organised in the coming days.
