The PSOE government decided to release the GAL president, Enrique Rodríguez Galindo, and the head of the torture of the Intxaurrondo headquarters. Although Joxean Lasa and Joxi Zabala were sentenced to 75 years in prison for kidnapping, torture and murder of young members of ETA refugees in the continental Basque Country, they served only four prisoners.
