The Bayonese resistance member Daniel Argote was arrested and executed by the Nazis in Orthol. She was running the Secret Army against Fascism, which had been a former professor, and when she was arrested she was helping 70 Poles brought to war by the German army to desert and flee across the Pyrenees. Today there are streets and schools named after them.
