The German workers' councils and the Spartakist League proclaimed the Soviet Republic of Bremen. Since the revolution started in November 1918, the workers' council had control of the city. In 25 days, the militia Freikorp, on the far right, stepped up the new Soviet Republic on behalf of the German Social Democratic Government.
