Attica starts a prison revolt in the American city of Buffalo. To reclaim their political rights and demand decent living conditions, 1,281 prisoners kidnapped the guards and took control of the prison for four days.

The National Guard killed 33 prisoners and several inmates in the disorder. In 2000, a judge sentenced the State to pay the prisoners $8 million for the rebellion and subsequent torture of prisoners.
