French army burns Eibar and kills twelve citizens

The French army burns Eibar. When the French troops entered Gipuzkoa through the Baztan during the Convention Wars, the General Boards tried to negotiate the Republic of Gipuzkoa that could be supported by France. When the rumor came that they were dealing with the French in Eibar, the municipal authorities decided to separate themselves from Gipuzkoa and join Bizkaia, as well as face them. The French, however, rejected the Guipuzkoan proposal. Eibar was the most affected town in Gipuzkoa. The French burned the council, the schools and part of the church, destroyed 116 houses and killed twelve neighbours.
