Faced with the abuses of the German occupiers, four days earlier, the popular uprising against Nazis and fascists began, Le quattro giornate di Naples, the first in a large European city. The rebellion shocked the Germans and paved the way for the allies on the front. It also laid the foundations for Italian partisan resistance.
