The German Government recognized that between 1904 and 1907 it had carried out genocide in Namibia. More than half of the populations of Herero and Nama were killed in a territory called then West German Africa. It began with the repression of the rebellion against colonial power and this cruel episode, unknown to many, is considered the first genocide of the twentieth century.
