The writer and journalist Agosti Xaho was born in Atharratz. He was in favour of the independence of Euskal Herria, but unlike Sabino Arana and others, the Xaho was left-wing, anticlerical and fervent antimonarchic. After the French Revolution of 1848, he advocated the French Republic, but after the coup d’état of Napoleon III.aren, he once again defended the independence of the entire Basque Country.
