On Mount Saibigain in Abadiño, hard fighting began between the Basque Army and the Francoist army

On Mount Saibigain in Abadiño, serious clashes began between the Basque Army and the Francoist army. It would last for eleven days in the resistance, during the day the francoists received the strategic point of the Urkiola area thanks to aviation and the warriors recovered it at night. Finally, on 15 April the fascists triumphed. Today, on the top is the monument to the Basque warriors, the great cross. This memory was put by the Francoists to pay tribute to their deaths, but in 1976, shortly after Franco's death, it changed its meaning, placed a new plaque and turned it into a supporter of the gudaris.
