Life surrounds everything, it is limited and fragile. To live good lives, it seems to me that the body knows what to do, while the mind, although it knows (when it is well informed), often sees the body deliberately silence. In this silence the mind opens itself to relations with other minds: the system. Sometimes the system is based on relationships of dependency, subordinating the body to other minds and interests. In others, the system is built on the basis of reciprocal relationships.
This week I saw a science fiction film: in a civilization that lived in a world full of the most advanced technologies and abundant materials, a parent had to go out to work for years to pay for the treatment of his dying daughter; their bodies were separated and silenced. In their system, the most advanced devices were available, health became a tool to dominate the bodies.
Even in these times, many people migrate because of life issues, forcing their minds to make unwanted changes but their body needs them. When I’ve done workshops with migrant people and we put the Osakidetza app on the mobile to learn how to make appointments, I explain to them the meaning of the word Osakidetza: a collaboration to take care of the health of the population; they get excited. It’s no wonder that life protection systems are a treasure. In the United States, children without resources sell lemon juice to fund an operation and/or crowdfunding to get donations. Those who are close to Mexico go to the other side because health is universal there; my own daughter had to use public health services in Mexico once and they gave us excellent care. In recent weeks, however, all the powerful are talking about the need to create systems for war.
