The day of the pastor of Huarte explained that Euskal Herria has been awarded the recognition to participate in international sheepcutting competitions. The officiality occurred at the 2023 World Championships in Scotland, as a result of the dossier presented by the Basque mozas and the excellent defence carried out in it. The news has greatly welcomed the friends of the divers and those we are with them.

The only game in which the profession is active in rural sport is sheep cutting, but it is an unknown trade for most people. It was traditionally done in Auzolan, from April to June, gathering large herdsmen. They worked as scissors, they cut dozens of sheep each and, after the slaughter, they ate together. In Euskal Herria, there are still pastors and farms that are doing it. However, in many valleys, due to the larger size of the herds or the urbanization, the dwellings have dispersed and the pastoril community has weakened, so they hire Mozatile sheep to carry out this work.

They're working machine, on a board, moving the electrical scissor tied to a cardinal who drops hanging from the mastil, dancing with the sheep that they're cutting. Sheep cutting is not a clean activity, it is carried out between straw and manure, in the barns and herds of pastors, the wool grease is left in the hands and hair in the work clothes. Hunched, sweaty, cutters in a short period of time take away a tremendous workload, so those who do so are valued in order.

The favorite day of the year was to cut sheep in my work as pastors. The members of the house were calm, happy, once the flock was cut off. I liked the humor and attitude of sheep scavengers, their old vans, their inner bed, the dogs underneath the chairs, the utensils, the smell of wool and the accounts of other places they counted.

So, I became a friend of a great cutting sheep, and I started going with her to hunt sheep. I've met many houses, families and places, industrial and extensive. We have travelled through Bizkaia, Burgos, Pyrenees, Asturias or Urbasa, and I have found Basque sheep who spoke in English, French, Italian and Spanish. I've enjoyed it so much with everyone, and I'm very grateful to be part of that world.

That the officiality serves to make the profession visible, to strengthen the relations between the sheepmen of the seven territories, to open the way to the young, to improve the working conditions and to show us united in the world as we are.
