Fight and metamorphosis of a woman
By: Eneko Sagardoy and Vito Rogado.
WHEN: 1 December.
WHERE: Serantes Room of Santurtzi.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Immediately after proposing the plan, the person who decided to buy the tickets online drew attention to the success of a woman's struggle and metamorphosis: “Almost everything is full. A Sunday night, in Santurtzi. How weird, right?" However, just in case and by the drowning of the phenomenon of the recent sold out, we also bought the tickets. Just in case. When we arrived in the room, we understood what had happened.
We will see the work from the stage; and, of course, the capacity is much smaller. On both sides of a long and narrow tablate (10x2 meters) there are about 50 chairs. At one end of the board was an armchair and a camera in front of each other; at the other end was a chair and a bottle of whiskey.
The story The struggle and metamorphosis of a woman has come a long way to reach the form of a theatrical play in Euskera. The original format of the work is literature and France is its original location. This is the fourth autobiographical book of the same name by the French author Edouard Louis. The last of Louis's four books, devoted to the mother, deals with the violence and suffering she has suffered in life. The writer is known for his crude way of presenting poverty, violence and family relations. The story begins when she discovers a self-portrait of her mother's youth. Louise takes the photo to remember the figure of her mother and somehow recognizes the suffering she has suffered. Actor Eneko Sagardoy embodies Louis and Vito Rogado in the play Monique loves (Euskera version).
The work lasted just over 52 minutes and it was Sagardoy who led the story of the words, making it almost a monologue. Rogado, sitting on a black couch, responds with gestures and words to her son’s raw passages. The spectator, for his part, constantly perceives the presence of his mother. In fact, Monique's face expression is projected on large screen at all times.
The story makes a brutal revisit to the life of Monique, a woman who suffered the poverty and violence of men. At least it was until he was 45 years old and decided to flee his house. At least his son had never confessed to his mother.
The only thing that has made me curious. To hear from the mouth of a man the struggle of a woman who lived in the power of men. It seemed to me that my son's confession legitimized Monique's metamorphosis. As if their own evolution acquired a sense, as if the metamorphobia required the late declaration of their child for its complete realization. Perhaps there are lost details in the adaptation, and I should know Louis's work and life better to understand the essence and intention of the work. However, I remain with the closeness and interpretation of Sagardoy and Rogado.
