Researchers at the Conservation Centre of the Egyptian Museum of Cairo have found that Eutrema japonicum or Cochlearia wasabi radish is suitable and effective for the cleaning and conservation of papyrus. That is, the wasabi used mainly in the Japanese kitchen, for its fungicidal properties.

In addition, the aging of some samples has been accelerated to learn about the effects of wasabi on papyrians in 100 years, as the chemicals used so far for the removal of fungi from paprians did not help the conservation of paprians. And they conclude that wasabi doesn't affect support or pigments.
