The value of life
Life has value. Affective value, moral value. Economic value: in the health and transportation departments, those responsible use statistical meters to weigh the value of life. In fact, authorities have to make choices to reduce the likelihood of death. Parcelsus (1493-1541), the medical army, was the first to think about measuring human life. In the seventeenth century, however, economic compensation for vital saturation was devised and human economic value continued to be measured more concretely. Since then, the measured values of life in roads or in medicine have been defined.
In Bizkitarte, not all human lives have the same value in reality, that is what stands out Benoît Bréville, in his last issue of Le Monde Diplomatique, in his article If you see them it valaient… [If the living had the same value…]. In this column, Bréville shows that rich western countries have given more value to the lives of Ukrainians than Gaza. The Ukrainians have been greeted in our countries, but the French President, Macron, after four months of extermination, has referred to the desirability and necessity of receiving about 50 wounded Palestinian children. Similarly, U.S. President Joe Biden rebelled when Mariupol hospital was bombed using the word genocide, but he has not denounced anything when a third of Gaza's hospitals have been blown up. Bréville believes that the main media prefer to compare the number of deaths in Sixteen with the Israeli population: 1,200 murders, compared to 8 million inhabitants, would be twenty "11 de la Cabeza" in the United States or one hundred "Bataclan" in France. Without great surprises, these "forgotten" diseases, which the mainstream media have stopped mentioning, are passing through Africa.
We need independent media like ARGIA, bold journalists and literature to offer equal value to all lives. However, through testimony and fiction, you can experience true life, as valuable as yours and the distant one.
