Harkaitz Cano started with an idea from theater director Fernando Bernués to write this curious and wonderful book we have in our hands. A girl, Oihana, tells us her story: her life with her parents, the death of her mother, her subsequent pain, her relationship with Agata, the life she recreates with her father... There are many things that Oihana tells us; as in a painting the brushes or the drops of paint are going to form Cano the one of Oihana.
In 30 short episodes (two or three pages the longest) the author tells the story of Oihana, but also forms a network around the reader so that, as the spider does with the fly, it gets trapped in the text, in the story that tells us the text and, above all, in the way of telling the story.
By inspiring facts (such as the death of the mother when narrating) or poetic narrating, the reader should build within the text message, read out what is said, see beyond what is told. “Sometimes they tell you a story and you laugh. Other times they tell you the same story and you only feel weeping.”
The book is also a support for reading or books. “Books do not force anything, they are an invitation”; for this, sometimes using references from universal literature: “And the porters: 'But, Paul… Poems are not the ones you write but the ones we need.'
The world is cracked, but we walk there, according to an old African proverb. And among all the avatars of the world we move forward, walking. This work by Harkaitz Cano helps us move forward and encourages us to continue walking in adverse situations. But above all, to enjoy the literature (in capital letters), the literature of Cano, the references to African culture and the citations of the writers mentioned in the play; to get excited by the images of Isabel Herguera and to enter into an exciting story. This book brings us to them and to a thousand other places. Invitation to enjoy the literature.
