The head weighs over a ton and measures 180 cm long and almost a meter wide. Quetzalcoatl represents the god of light and the knowledge of life.
Experts found that the head has an intense polychrome, but moisture makes the colors very dull. Therefore, the INAH (National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico) has launched a slow process of gradual elimination of moisture to avoid the risk of pigment deterioration.
The process is scheduled to end next year and from then on the snake will recover the original colors.
