d. C. The eruption of Vesuvius in 79 was a disaster for the inhabitants of Pompeii and Herculano, and a hayedo for the archaeologists of the future, since in the ashes the buildings, objects and dead, or at least the holes left by them, were perfectly preserved.

Well, the inhabitants of Herculano left no trace, except those who took refuge in the port, and scientists have just explained why and published it in the journal Scientific Reports.

When the first pyroclastic flow caused by the eruption reached Herculano, it is estimated that it had a temperature of 550 degrees Celsius, lower in Pompeii, because it is closer, causing the sudden incineration and evaporation of the herculans.
