When and how did Rooted emerge? It was in lockdown. Everything and everyone stood and there I saw my moment, my opportunity. Until then, because of my working and living situation, the idea
of organising pensions was impossible. But when we were closed at home and everything was in danger, that is, when we lived in a constant unknown and everything was possible, I began to develop my utopian idea. In June, when we were released, I picked up the suitcase and the car and started the Rooted project. I went to Ibiza.
What are you looking for? Working on
self-knowledge, empowerment, care and well-being of women: talking, reflecting and practicing creativity. Feeling part of a group of women who listen, support and support themselves. In other words, they feel free to explain how everyone who participates in retirement is, without complexes or self-judgments.
Your goal is to create a safe space for the well-being of women. Is it common to have safe spaces in society? I would like to stress in advance that these spaces are necessary. There are
not many spaces that allow us to be totally free. We often live limited by outside judgments or criticisms, or self-censorship. And since we often fear that sentence, we do not communicate freely, it is not 100% of us and I find it very sad.
Do we women know each other
enough? The system doesn't want empowered women, it doesn't suit it. Self-knowledge empowers us and that makes us free. Imagine yourself in a society where all women feel free and free.
Freedom is power, it does not suit the system because it would lose control. Therefore, knowing, accepting, loving and living freely our bodies is absolutely revolutionary, because from a young age we are filled with fear, tobacco, hatred, comparison…
He organized his first retirement in Ibiza. Why there? I have long fallen in love with the island. Their energy is really beautiful, and because I had to choose a place in the world, I chose Ibiza. It was wonderful. Today I have a very close, healthy and beautiful relationship with the women who came, they
are very good friends.
Three years later also came Maldives, Sri Lanka and Luis. How was the opportunity? The truth is, I didn't choose those places. There I got the opportunity to organize retirements, proposing other people to do so in these places. The first was in
Panama and the rest have come behind.
What can a woman in retirement find? Every retirement is unique, and the truth is that I like to have the opportunity to create very diverse experiences, because we're not all looking for the same thing in these retirements, and it's good to have a range of different options.
Ibiza has a magnificent team of women and this is our base of camps. We carry out different workshops and activities: yoga, biochalance, chakras, menstrual cycle… With the help of the other women who come, deep internal work is done. The experience of the Maldives is much more adventurous. Sri Lanka, among others, prioritizes work with the indigenous women community.
Do you intend to move on? 2023 is beautiful, you know what's going to happen in 2024. Life goes around a lot and the truth is that I like to see the future without writing and feeling
unforeseen. Nobody goes to the final pages to learn the final when they read a book, otherwise they would lose all grace. Life for me is something like this, even if not always so. Before, ignorance and lack of control made me anxious. Now, feeling this is terrible to me, and with this life I feel freedom.
From the hand of Rooted you live there and here, is that your life? My life has changed a lot in recent years, and I'm adapting slowly. I really like to travel and now it is
a pleasure to be able to take the computer and work from anywhere in the world.
Finally, what place does music take in your life now? Music is always present
and will always be present because it is my greatest passion and makes me happy. I've spent many years under the spotlights, but now it's located somewhere else. I'm getting to know other spaces to make and sing music.
What about the Rooted
project? Anyone I just met will take a few minutes to know if I like to sing, because I give hours singing. Music is present in all spaces of my life, even in Rooted.
“For the first time I went to retirement in 2020, to Sri Lanka. By then I was immersed in a world of self-knowledge and menstrual cycle. In order to train and expand these issues, I held several workshops in the Basque Country. I made a personal choice to put creativity into practice, but my desire went further: among other things, I wanted to work self-knowledge and creativity from the community. I saw the need to create safe spaces for women, but I didn't know in what format these spaces are organized. The retirement of Sri Lanka helped me a lot and I saw it clear and felt it: the workshop format was short and, therefore, I saw that creating longer experiences could be very enriching."

Today, the voices of women and children remain within a culture that delegitimizes their voices, silencing their experiences, within a system aimed at minimizing or ignoring their basic rights and needs. A media example of this problem is the case of Juana Rivas, but her story... [+]
