The collapse of the Zaldibar landfill in February 2020 led to the disappearance of the workers Alberto Sololuze and Joaquín Beltrán, causing a disaster and confusion in the Basque Country. After a month, an unknown virus coming from China collapsed the health system and we all stayed at home. Artedrama and Axut’s latest work has brought these dark times to the table.
As you enter the theater, gray color and confusion are the audiovisual forces that have reduced the stage. I have lived and maintained the narrative from the beginning to the end, to follow closely the changes in the role of the actors and locate all the elements of the scenography. The inability of the journalist, the despair of the missing family and the disillusionment and indifference of those responsible are often felt on his skin. Especially, the story that emerged between the hospital patient and the worker: the Chilean laborer has reminded us that the Atakama Desert is becoming a rubble of clothing, moving the history of his homeland to the table, and with it we have understood that Zaldibar’s representation scenario has been filled with clothing. Excellent at the moment, the star projection has allowed us to travel to the desert.
A beautiful political and social criticism as the situation requires, addressing a living story in which humor has been present. Skilled actors, stage holders and very close to the public. As we have seen in the last works of Axut and Artedram. On this occasion, however, the audiovisual force has been worked hard. Until we revitalize the overdose and uncertainty of the time when the numbers and data reflected also outside the three walls of the stage have been given to everyone’s oblivion.
In conclusion, the initial scene repeats itself, but the eyes of the public are sharp and moved. Even though it is believed that this dark time has passed, which is so close to us, the disaster has left its mark and is necessary for reflection or debate of this kind.
The actors greet us with another of the protagonists of this latest production. And that's because they've taken the singing to the door of the theater. We've been there my aunt and I, and in the end I've had to pull my arm out of the door. "I would stay until the lights went out listening to them," he confessed smiling. We have walked silently with the feeling of having enjoyed in the theater for a long time.
